Savannah Hospitality Group CEO Carmen Delgado Reinvents Historic District Tourism Strategy
Carmen Delgado's hospitality group Riverfront Collective is betting on family entertainment and non-traditional attractions to diversify Savannah's historic district tourism economy.

Carmen Delgado, chief executive of hospitality group Riverfront Collective, unveiled a multi-year strategy this week to expand family entertainment and non-traditional attractions along Savannah's historic riverfront, part of a broader push to diversify a tourism economy long dominated by walking tours and traditional dining.
Delgado's company operates several riverfront restaurants and entertainment venues and recently acquired a struggling property that it plans to redevelop into an indoor entertainment complex featuring interactive history exhibits, an arcade, and event space for private functions. The strategy reflects a broader industry recognition that Savannah's future tourism growth may depend on attracting visitors beyond the traditional history-tour crowd.
"For decades this district built its entire identity around ghost tours and historic architecture, and that alone can't carry the riverfront's future the way it used to," Delgado said. "Families want a full weekend of things to do, not just a walking tour. If we don't build that experience, they'll drive past us to somewhere that has."
Riverfront Collective's redevelopment project is expected to open next summer, timed to capture the peak tourist season. Delgado says early leasing interest from complementary retail and dining tenants has exceeded her initial projections, which she attributes to renewed investor confidence in Savannah's tourism diversification potential.
City officials have pointed to Delgado's project as an example of the kind of private investment they hope will accelerate the riverfront's broader diversification efforts.
