Georgia Unemployment Rate Falls to Lowest Level in a Decade
Georgia's unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level in ten years, driven by hiring gains in healthcare, logistics, and financial services.

Georgia's unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in a decade last month, according to figures released by the state Department of Labor, driven by sustained hiring gains in healthcare, logistics, and financial services.
Healthcare added the largest number of new jobs of any sector statewide, reflecting continued hospital system expansion projects across Metro Atlanta and Middle Georgia. Logistics and warehousing employment also grew steadily, benefiting from the state's position as a distribution hub anchored by the Port of Savannah. Financial services hiring, concentrated primarily in Atlanta, rounded out the state's strongest-performing sectors.
"We're seeing broad-based job growth rather than gains concentrated in a single industry, which tends to make an economic expansion more durable," said a state Department of Labor economist who presented the data. "That said, low unemployment doesn't mean every resident is feeling the benefit equally, and wage growth in some lower-paying sectors has lagged behind the overall job numbers."
The state's labor force participation rate also ticked upward, suggesting that at least some of the improvement reflects workers returning to the job market rather than simply existing workers changing jobs. Certain counties, particularly in south Georgia, continue to report unemployment rates above the statewide average, a disparity officials say remains a policy priority.
State budget officials say the improved employment picture is expected to boost income tax revenue projections for the upcoming fiscal year, though they caution that national economic conditions could still shift the outlook.
