Savannah Historic District Resort Spas Expand Weekend Wellness Packages
Savannah historic district resort spas are expanding multi-day wellness packages aimed at weekend travelers looking for a relaxation-focused alternative to the district's traditional walking tours.

Several resort spas in Savannah's historic district are expanding multi-day wellness packages, part of a broader effort to position the district as a relaxation-focused destination distinct from its long-established reputation for walking tours and historic architecture.
The new packages typically bundle spa treatments, fitness classes, and healthy dining options across a two- or three-night stay, targeting visitors who want a wellness-oriented weekend without necessarily spending every hour on a guided tour. Resort spa directors say demand for these bundled packages has grown steadily as Savannah works to diversify its visitor base beyond traditional history tourists.
"For a long time, our spa was almost an afterthought for guests who were really here for the ghost tours and the architecture," said one resort spa director involved in developing the new packages. "We're now marketing directly to a completely different traveler, someone who's choosing Savannah specifically because of the spa experience alongside the history, not despite it."
The packages have drawn a notably different demographic than typical history-tour guests, with resorts reporting higher weekend bookings from younger professionals and small groups of friends organizing wellness-focused getaways. Several properties have also added garden-view treatment rooms and expanded outdoor relaxation spaces to capitalize on the district's landscaped squares.
Tourism officials say the wellness package expansion aligns with broader efforts to diversify Savannah's visitor economy, though they note spa tourism remains a small fraction of the district's overall visitor spending.
